Her voice was starting to be heard the world over when on 9 October 2012 she was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman who had asked for her by name and unbelievably she survived and recovered. On her sixteenth birthday, less than a year later she addressed the United Nations Youth Assembly about her passion for and the importance of education.
She lives with her family in Birmingham, England now and was told during a chemistry class that she had won the Peace Prize. What a remarkable young woman.
